In spring of 2026, we successfully ran pilot sessions of an afterschool program for Harrisville elementary students. Based in free-play, the program was embraced by participants and the town. We will offer a similar program for the 2026-2027 school year that will be expanded to include enrichment programming and clubs.
We are seeking two qualified staff to oversee the program, both paid positions, $15-25/hour depending on experience. We are also seeking volunteers from all backgrounds to lead a club one or two days a week for 6-8 weeks throughout the school year. The club could be anything you would enjoy sharing with engaged, thoughtful students.
Ideas might be to teach a dance class or a permaculture workshop; put on a play, read out loud, play chess, make puppets. You could devise an outdoor education unit or teach a weaving class. The club could be for one hour or for three. It could be inside or out on the ball field or in the woods. It could be an ongoing project or a one-off enterprise. We are inspired by the incredible talent and knowledge that exists in Harrisville, and we invite you to share this remarkable learning with the next generation.
If you would like to be involved, apply for the job, or have an idea, please contact us at harrisvillevcc@gmail.com. A dynamic and robust afterschool program is a powerful resource for a small community like Harrisville, and we hope you’ll consider being a part of its success.
